Chiang Rai offers a quieter, more artistic alternative to Chiang Mai, perfect for families seeking something unique. Children will be amazed by the dazzling White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) with its fairy-tale details, and the vibrant Blue Temple with its striking interiors.
Explore the quirky Black House Museum with its bold, unusual art, or take a day trip to the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. Families can also enjoy gentle boat rides on the Mekong River, visit hill tribe villages, or wander scenic countryside trails.
Chiang Rai is around a 3–4 hour drive from Chiang Mai, making it ideal for a short add-on. Stay overnight for a relaxed pace and to see the highligts without rushing.

Khao Sok is Thailand’s ultimate jungle adventure, ideal for families with a sense of exploration. The star attraction is Cheow Lan Lake, a breathtaking emerald reservoir dotted with towering limestone cliffs. Khao Lak is also a great base for exploring the Similan Islands, known for incredible snorkelling and diving.
With an airport and plenty of family-friendly resorts, Phuket is one of the easiest places to start your Thai beach holiday, however it is also one of the busiest. Khao Lak, just an hour away, offers a calmer, more nature-focused alternative.

Koh Lanta is a laid-back island perfect for families who love wide, uncrowded beaches and a slower pace. Children can play safely on calm stretches like Klong Dao Beach, while parents enjoy sunset views from beachfront cafés.
Explore the island’s mangrove forests by kayak, take a day trip to Koh Rok for snorkelling in crystal-clear waters, or visit Lanta Animal Welfare for an educational and heartwarming experience. Older children will enjoy cycling around the island or discovering the old town’s wooden houses.
Koh Lanta is less touristy than Phuket and Phi Phi, offering space, peace, and a family-friendly atmosphere without losing comfort or charm.

Krabi is well-connected to Koh Lanta by ferry or car transfer, making it easy to combine beach time with a quieter island vibe.

The most popular season is the cool, dry period from November to March, especially for Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and most islands (although even in rainy season the downpours tend to be short and sharp).
